The Senate and Association of the Pakistani Physicians in North America (APPNA) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for providing assistance to earthquake victims and provision of emergency services in the-earthquake hit areas.

It may be mentioned here that the Association of Pakistani Physicians, of North America, in response to the call of the earthquake victims approached Chairman Senate, Mohammedmian Soomro and the Senate Secretariat for assistance in its desire of providing relief and rehabilitation to earthquake victims.

The Senate Secretariat and APPNA, after visiting the earthquake affected areas decided to co-operate in relief and rehabilitation campaign, said a press release.

Under the MOU, the Senate Secretariat would assist APPNA in setting up of rehabilitation hospitals in the earthquake hit areas and to operate these hospitals for 1-2 years as needed before handing over the same to the local authorities. APPNA would also undertake training of the staff and provision of related equipment and materials.

It was agreed that the Secretariat would assist the association in setting up rehabilitation centres in major hospitals like PIMS and Shifa International Islamabad to backup the rehabilitation facilities.

The Senate Secretariat would extend all possible assistance to APPNA in its efforts to upgrade the care at the district level hospitals, besides providing medicines, equipment and artificial limbs to the victims.
